Welcome to Penrose

Penrose is a primary school for pupils with a range of learning needs. Pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and National Curriculum in addition to personalised therapeutic programmes and extra curricular activities offering a wide range of individualised learning experiences. A typical week may include Forest School, Intensive Interaction, Sensory Activities, Hydrotherapy, Physical Therapies, Food Technology and one to one and small group interventions in Literacy, Numeracy, Music and Communication. Outreach opportunities create links with other local schools and allow us to support learners in many different environments to suit their needs.

We are fortunate to have a purpose built site incorporating many different learning environments, allowing us to be led by the pupils' interests and ideas, wherever this might take us! Learners can benefit from the use of zoned classrooms, individual work stations, sensory room, separate rooms for focussed learning, a large hall and library. Outside offers traditional playground facilities accompanied by accessible play equipment and sensory and horticulture spaces. There is also a covered, enclosed continuous provision accessible from early years classrooms.

The words Achieve, Celebrate, Belong are used throughout the school to highlight our core values. We encourage recognition of achievements both in school, at home and in the wider community. Celebrations take many forms; immediate praise and rewards, weekly assemblies, end of term medals and end of year awards. Every contribution to the daily life of the school community is valued and we aim for every member of it to feel included, listened to and appreciated. Positive relationships with families and outside agencies are vital in ensuring our pupils aquire the skills to help them develop.
